Treatment facility for ELV

Within the Regional Recycling Center at the landfill, "Livade" in Podgorica Plant for treatment of ELV that possesses the most modern equipment for handling these types of hazardous waste.

The plant was officially opened and put into trial operation on 29th September 2010, when the first vehicles were recycled at the plant. The construction of this modern plant, whose capacity meets not only the needs of the Capital City, but the state of Montenegro, was essential to deal with a very significant problem of disposing of hazardous waste, on the manner prescribed by EU standards. This will significantly reduce and ultimately eliminate completely, very harmful impact of this type of waste on the environment, especially on soil, groundwater and streams, as well as on the air.

The construction of the Plant for the treatment of ELV, which is worth € 1,095,485.57, is funded by the Capital City from the budget funds.

TECNOLOGICAL PROCESS OF WORK IN THE PLANT FOR THE TREATMENT OF ELV

Technological process provides that the acceptance of ELV by its owners is done at the entrance checkpoint of the facility, where the weighting and electronic recording of vehicles is done, with the entering of the information about the owner of the vehicle, and the vehicle itself (vehicle type, chassis number, engine number, etc). The owner shall be issued the corresponding certificate for the checked vehicle.

Upon the reception of the ELV, in the treatment plant, firstly accumulator is removed and it is stored into a special container, and then, on the decontamination line, the removal of all types of fluids (various types of oils, fuel, antifreeze, liquid glass cleaner, brake fluid, freon, etc…) from the vehicles is performed by suction, and the fluids are automatically, directly deposited into special containers that are on located on special enclosed and secured area outside of the plant.
Immediately after the decontamination, vehicle is transferred through the conveyor line to the line for disassembly that has eight workstations. On them, each worker is individually responsible for removal of certain parts of vehicles which are disposed into pallet containers (windows, glass, seats, bumpers, lighting equipment, engine, transmission, axles, wheels, cables, coolers, aluminum parts of the engine and transmission, etc.).

At the end of the process only the car "shell" is remained and it is cut with the hydraulic metal shear, thus preparing for the treatment on metal presses.

Most of the selected materials from ELV have their market value (iron, steel, aluminum, copper, some of the plastic) and can be economically valorized. Tires are deposited on a specially enclosed area, while textiles and other materials belonging to the municipal solid waste are disposed in a sanitary cell.
